An 808-only diode laser uses one central wavelength, while IPL uses broad-spectrum pulsed light and is not a true laser. The ClearWave Ultra 4 combines 4 wavelengths, so you can tailor each treatment more precisely: 755 nm for finer hairs and lighter skin, 808 nm as a broad working wavelength, 940 nm for efficient heat build-up, and 1064 nm for darker skin types (V – VI).
